- For the first time in the world, Russian cosmonauts voiced typhoid commentary on board the ISS
Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov, Alexey Zubritsky and Oleg Platonov for the first time in the world acted as typhoon commentators, describing the views of the planet from orbit. This was announced by Roscosmos on October 15.
This experiment was conducted on the International Day of the White Cane, dedicated to people with visual impairments.
Typhlocommentation is a technique in which a person verbally creates visual information for people with visual impairments. In Russia, this profession has officially appeared since 2025.
"We wanted to show <...> that people with visual impairments also have the opportunity to visually perceive this world, only in their own way. <...> The life of blind people and human life in general is absolutely limitless and unlimited in possibilities, and space, strictly speaking, is the most striking example," said the deputy head of the program The "Special view" of the Charitable Foundation "Art, Science and Sport" Vladimir Plekhov.
Earlier that day, it was reported that the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia (RSC, part of Roscosmos) had registered a patent for a space system that creates artificial gravity. The authors noted that the rotation of the system will create an overload of up to 0.5 g (50% of the earth's gravity), which corresponds to a rotational speed of about five revolutions per minute with a radius of 40 m.
