The reconstruction of the Gaza Strip is likely to require $70 billion. This was announced on October 14 by the Special Representative of the head of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Jaco Cilliers at a briefing in Geneva.

"According to an operational damage and needs assessment conducted jointly by the United Nations, the European Union and the World Bank, it will take about $70 billion to rebuild Gaza," Silliers said, quoted by Reuters.

It is claimed that a significant part of the destruction occurred in the city of Gaza, where some of the fiercest fighting took place. According to the UN Satellite Center (UNOSAT), about 83% of all buildings there were damaged.

Reuters cites the UNDP estimate, which states that at least 55 million tons of debris must be dismantled in Gaza City. The bodies of dead Palestinians may still remain under them, the newspaper notes. It is reported that during the two years of war in the Gaza Strip, about 68 thousand people died.

Silliers could not provide an estimated timeline for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. In his opinion, it can take decades and directly depends on the amount of funding received.

On October 13, at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, representatives of Egypt, the United States, Qatar and Turkey signed an agreement to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip. According to US President Donald Trump, this gas deal is "the largest and most complex."

On the same day, the American leader announced his intention to help the Gaza Strip in economic development, including restoring stability and security. Trump also called on the Palestinians to focus on themselves after the events instead of trying to destroy Israel.

In turn, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during a meeting with UAE Vice President Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan on October 13, stressed the importance of continuous delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and stressed the need for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.
