Cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) between Russia and China will grow to 20 million tons by 2030. This was announced to reporters on October 14 by Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev following a meeting of the subcommittee on cooperation on the NSR of the Russian-Chinese commission for the preparation of regular meetings of heads of government.

"We have not just set goals for each other to achieve volumes of 20 million tons by 2030, our roadmap outlines in detail different areas [of cooperation]," he said.

It is specified that cooperation between the Russian Federation and China in the coming years will affect navigation, navigation, the creation of Arctic-class cargo ships, training and internship of personnel, as well as other areas.

In addition, Likhachev noted that in 2025 the number of flights to the NSR increased by 20%. For example, the NSR was used by participants in Arctic projects, international logistics and transit workers.

Earlier, on September 5, Likhachev told Izvestia that over the next three to five years, Russia is expected to move from tens to hundreds of million tons in transportation by icebreakers along the NSR. In addition, the head of Rosatom stressed that international transit would provide a significant addition to this work. According to Likhachev, the relevant work is underway with Russia's closest partners — China, India and other states.
