- China has applied anti-sanctions measures against five Hanwha Ocean subsidiaries in the United States
China has taken anti-sanctions measures against five American subsidiaries of the South Korean Hanwha Ocean Shipbuilding Corporation. This was reported by CNBC on October 14.
We are talking about Hanwha Shipping LLC, Hanwha Philly Shipyard Inc., Hanwha Ocean USA International LLC, Hanwha Shipping Holdings LLC and HS USA Holdings Corp — the companies are included in the list of organizations for which China is implementing measures to counter foreign sanctions, the material says.
In addition, Chinese organizations and individuals are prohibited from doing business with companies, the publication says.
In this way, Beijing is responding to the measures taken by Washington regarding China's maritime, logistics and shipbuilding industries. The authors of the publication emphasize the alleged involvement of all five subsidiaries in Washington's investigation into the Chinese shipping industry. In their opinion, this has led to an escalation of tension between Beijing and Washington.
It is also noted that after the announcement of the Chinese side, Hanwha Ocean shares in Seoul fell by more than 8%.
On October 10, US President Donald Trump announced the US's readiness to impose increased duties on goods from China in response to Beijing's decision to restrict exports of rare earths. In addition, the United States may limit the supply of software to China, as well as many other goods, including airplanes. Later, Trump confirmed his intention to impose duties on goods from China from November 1.
