A general blood test helps diagnose arthritis, as well as studies on rheumatoid factor, antibodies to cyclic citrullinated peptide and antibodies to DNA. This was announced on October 14 by a doctor of medical Sciences, a doctor of the highest qualification category, deputy director of the Institute of Clinical Medicine, head of the Department of Faculty Therapy. Academician A.I. Nesterov of Pirogov University Ales Klimenko "Газете.Ru ".

According to the doctor, there are simple markers that indicate the presence of an inflammatory process in the body. For example, an increased level of C-reactive protein (CRP) may be the first signal of possible arthritis.

"CRP is actively used in calculating disease activity indices, helping the doctor evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy. Therefore, if an inflammatory process is suspected, taking a CRP test is an important step," Klimenko explained.

The expert noted that in addition to common markers such as CRP, there are also specific indicators detected in a blood test. These include rheumatoid factor (antibodies produced by the immune system that attack the body's own tissues, perceiving them as foreign), antibodies to cyclic citrullinated peptide (a protein that is not present in the blood of people without rheumatoid arthritis), antibodies to DNA (this analysis helps in the diagnosis of various autoimmune diseases) and others.

The doctor explained that these markers are necessary to accurately determine the type of arthritis.

"This allows us to determine whether it is part of a chronic inflammatory disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus," the specialist concluded.

Earlier, on October 13, Anna Solovey, ophthalmologist at 3Z clinic, said that blueberry supplements do not have a significant clinical effect on eye health, despite the popularity of such drugs. The doctor explained that the widespread myth about the benefits of blueberries for vision has no scientific confirmation.
