In autumn, the immune system weakens due to a number of reasons, including cold weather, stress, reduced sunlight and changes in diet. This was announced on October 14 by Dmitry Karpenko, Associate professor of the Department of Polyclinic Therapy at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Pirogov University, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

According to the expert, the main reasons for the decrease in the body's resistance to viruses are cold and dampness, which cause narrowing of the vessels of the nasal mucosa and facilitate the penetration of infections. Social factors also play an important role, such as the return of people from vacations to teams and an increase in time spent indoors.

In addition, the doctor noted that "a sharp reduction in daylight hours and vitamin D deficiency lead to apathy, drowsiness and a weakening of the immune system," and the transition to heavier food and polluted air increase the burden on the body.

Earlier, on October 13, psychologist Sergey Lunyushin explained how to cope with the autumn blues. He noted that mood swings are often associated with concentration on negative events and advised to perceive seasonal difficulties as temporary, focusing on the positive aspects.
