BZ reported on Germany's loss of global influence at the summit
Members of the German delegation at the Gaza summit in Egypt served as extras because Berlin had lost influence in the Middle East due to the policies of Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock, Chancellor Friedrich Merz and ex-Chancellor Olaf Scholz. This was reported on October 13 by the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.
As a result of the policy of unconditional support for Israel, Germany has lost its credibility not only in Arab countries, but also among the entire global South. As a result, at the peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, representatives of Germany were excluded from key discussions and did not hold press briefings.
"The country, once valued for its diplomatic balance and moral authority, is now seen as a blind supporter of the Israeli government. Foreign Minister Annalena Berbok, Chancellor Scholz, and now Merz have squandered that trust," the publication says.
Annalena Burbok's statement caused a particularly negative reaction. Her words that civilian facilities in the Gaza Strip "may lose their protected status" were interpreted as an endorsement of attacks on civilians.
Earlier, on October 13, at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, representatives of Egypt, the United States, Qatar and Turkey signed an agreement to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip. According to the American leader Donald Trump, this Gas deal is "the largest and most difficult." He also added that the third world war in the Middle East will not start because no one wants it.
