The National Museum of the Navy Seals of the United States mistakenly posted a photo of the Russian missile cruiser Varyag, congratulating the American Navy on its 250th anniversary. The post appeared on October 13 on the official account of the museum in the social network X.

"Today we celebrate the birthday of the United States Navy - 250 years of courage, bravery and loyalty," the publication said, accompanied by a picture of the Russian ship.

After users, including Navy veterans and journalists, pointed out the error, the post was deleted. The Wall Street Journal reporter David Brown noted that this was not the only blunder — Kingston Mayor Don Hardy also congratulated the navy by posting a photo of a Japanese destroyer, and the official account celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States used images created by a neural network.

Earlier, on October 3, US President Donald Trump announced that a solemn event in honor of the 250th anniversary of the Naval forces would be held in Norfolk, Virginia. He noted that despite the government shutdown, the celebration would be the largest in the history of the U.S. Navy. Thousands of military personnel and their families were expected to attend the ceremony, as well as the First Lady, the Minister of Defense and the head of the Navy.
