The family of Russian swimmer Nikolai Svechnikov, who went missing while swimming in the Bosphorus, has filed an application with the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation. This was reported to Izvestia on October 13 by one of the relatives of the missing man.
Alyona, a relative of the wife of the missing Nikolai Svechnikov, confirmed that Galina Svechnikova, the swimmer's mother, had submitted an application to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, and the family was waiting for a response from the department.
Svechnikov disappeared on August 24. A professional swimmer did not reach the finish line across the Bosphorus in Istanbul. After swimming 500-600 m, the athlete disappeared from sight. Honored Master of Sports, world record holder in swimming Nikolai Skvortsov suggested that the man could have been swept away by the current.

On October 8, Alexey Ivanov, Charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Turkey, said that the search for Svechnikov had not been successful.
