The Russian Embassy has warned about possible queues at the entrance to Schengen
The Russian Embassy in Belgium has warned Russian citizens about possible delays when crossing the borders of the Schengen area due to disruptions in the new Entry and Exit System (EES), which began operating on October 12. This is stated in a statement published on October 13 in the Telegram channel of the diplomatic agency.
"Since October 12, 2025, a new Entry and Exit System has been put into effect in Belgium and other countries of the Schengen area, providing for the collection of biometric data of third—country nationals," the embassy said.
Diplomats recommended that travelers take extra time to pass through passport control.
"At the initial stage of the system's operation, queues are possible at checkpoints," the message said.
According to the embassy, the system is already operational at all entry points to Belgium, and by April 10, 2026, it will be implemented in all countries of the Schengen area.
Earlier, on October 12, the Reuters news agency reported that the European Union has launched an electronic entry and exit system (EES), which provides for mandatory registration and collection of biometric data from citizens of non-EU countries. The system is designed to combat violations of the migration regime and will replace stamps in passports with electronic records of border crossings.
