Zelensky was invited to Washington for talks with Trump
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has received an official invitation to visit Washington for talks with US President Donald Trump. This was reported on October 13 by The New York Post newspaper with reference to the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States.
"The President of Ukraine has received an official invitation to come to the United States for a meeting," the diplomatic mission confirmed.
According to media reports, the visit may take place as early as Friday. The invitation followed two telephone conversations between the leaders. Zelensky noted that he had discussed with Trump issues of defense and energy sustainability of Ukraine.
"We have covered all aspects of the situation: the protection of life in our country, the strengthening of air defense and the development of long—range capabilities," he said.
In an interview with Fox News, the Ukrainian leader also called on the United States to provide Kiev with long-range Tomahawk missiles, stressing that "real air defense and long-range weapons" would allegedly help increase pressure on Moscow.
Earlier, on October 12, Donald Trump announced a "good conversation" with Zelensky and allowed the opportunity to discuss Tomahawk supplies with Russian President Vladimir Putin if the conflict in Ukraine was not resolved. According to Zelensky, Kiev and Washington have agreed on energy, air defense and long-range missiles.
