Automotive expert Maxim Rakitin told us what signs indicate the unsuitability of winter tires.

In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Monday, October 13, the specialist noted that in order to understand whether winter tires are suitable for use, it is important to check their age, the condition of the spikes and the depth of the tread.

Rakitin explained that the average service life of tires is about five to six years: after this period, their properties deteriorate and their efficiency decreases. In the case of studded rubber, he said, the number and condition of the spikes should be assessed — if there are too few of them left, you should consider replacing them. He stressed that the key indicator is the tread depth; special marks are provided on a number of tires, which can be used to judge wear. Rakitin added that in a season of frequent temperature transitions through zero, winter tires are becoming a critical safety factor, the website writes. kp.ru . In this regard, the age, tread and spikes need to be evaluated together and only after a thorough check should a replacement decision be made.

On October 10, auto expert Ruslan Zykov spoke about ways to prolong the life of rubber. In particular, summer and winter tires should be kept in a cool place, notes 360.ru .

On October 9, vice-president of the National Automobile Union Jan Heitser, in an interview with RT, noted that the use of studded rubber in winter is justified on ice and snow, but in the city it is "categorically unjustified."

At the same time, the expert Igor Morzharetto told how to choose winter tires. So. According to him, in regions with cleared roads, like in Moscow and the Moscow region, Velcro fasteners work well — they are comfortable on asphalt, rolled snow and moderate ice. And where roads are not cleaned and ice or deep snow often forms, studded tires are more reliable. It all depends on the climate, road conditions and driving style, according to Pravda.Ru .

In September, Nikolay Pogulyaev, the head of the car service, warned that too early or, conversely, a late transition to winter tires could lead to serious consequences for the car and the driver's safety.

In May, the State Traffic Inspectorate reported that in Russia in winter, motorists can drive on studded tires. At the same time, only non-studded winter tires are acceptable, writes NSN.
