The media reported a rapid increase in the number of bankruptcies in Germany
The number of applications from German companies for bankruptcy in September increased by 10.4% compared to the same period last year. This was reported on October 13 by the Tagesschau television service, citing data from the German Federal Statistical Office.
It is noted that in July 2025, 2.1 thousand bankruptcy applications were filed, and loan arrears amounted to €3.7 billion, which is €500 million more than in July 2024. Most of the companies filing for bankruptcy worked in the transportation and warehouse business.
The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) expects the number of bankruptcy filings to exceed 22,000 by the end of 2025.
According to Volker Dreier, chief analyst at DIHK, the main reasons for the increased number of bankruptcies are the decline in exports to the United States, the decline in industrial production in Germany and problems in the economy.
Bloomberg reported on August 7 that industrial production in Germany experienced the biggest drop in a year, leading to a crisis caused by trade duties imposed by US President Donald Trump. According to Bloomberg, due to the industrial collapse, the German economy shrank by 0.2%, not 0.1%.
