Madagascar's president left the country on a French military plane
Madagascar's President Andri Radzuellina left the island on a French military plane. This was announced on October 13 by the RFI radio station.
It is clarified that Radzuelina left Madagascar as part of an agreement with French President Emmanuel Macron. According to the newspaper, Radzuelina arrived by helicopter on the island of Saint-Marie, and then boarded a French military plane, presumably bound for Dubai.
The French authorities emphasize that their participation is limited only to ensuring the safe departure of the head of state and has nothing to do with military intervention. The French military forces based on Reunion Island will not take part in further actions, Paris said.
On September 29, the President of Madagascar announced the dissolution of the government amid protests in the country. Mass demonstrations have been taking place on the island nation since September 25 due to power and water supply disruptions, which later escalated into mass riots. Earlier, RFI radio station reported that five people were killed during riots in Madagascar, and police used rubber bullets and gas grenades to disperse a protest in the capital Antananarivo.
On October 12, the media reported that Radzuelina could have left the capital of his state, Antananarivo, after the army refused to resist the demonstrators, which are attended by young people and students.
