Trump left a message about the release of hostages in the Knesset guest book.
US President Donald Trump left a message in the guestbook of the Israeli parliament (Knesset), where he called the release of hostages by the Palestinian radical movement Hamas as part of a deal with Israel a "great day."
"This is my great honor — a great and wonderful day, a new beginning," Trump wrote, leaving a message with a black felt—tip pen.
On the same day, it became known that the first group of seven Israeli hostages released by the Palestinian Hamas movement had been handed over to the IDF in the Gaza Strip. It was noted that upon their return to Israel, all of them will undergo a medical examination. It was later reported that Hamas had released a second group of 13 hostages, who had been handed over to the Red Cross.
On October 9, Israel and Hamas signed an agreement on a cease-fire and the release of hostages after indirect talks in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. According to the agreement, the fighting will cease, Israel will partially withdraw from Gaza, and Hamas will release all remaining hostages in exchange for prisoners held in Israel. The ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip entered into force on October 10 at 12:00 Moscow time.
