Scientists have reported on the threat of global extinction of coral reefs

Warm—water coral reefs are gradually dying out due to greenhouse gas emissions - this indicates that the Earth has passed one of the "thresholds of ecological catastrophe." This was reported on September 13 by the British newspaper The Guardian, citing a report by 160 scientists from 23 countries.

It is noted that the world is also "on the verge" of reaching other tipping points, including the extinction of the Amazon, the collapse of major ocean currents and the loss of ice sheets.
