AvtoVAZ named the timing of the appearance of a new engine for the classic Niva
In 2026, the classic Lada Niva will receive a new engine. This was announced to the Izvestia correspondent on October 13 by Sergey Kornienko, AvtoVAZ's head of product marketing.
"Approximately in the middle of next year, a new 1.8-liter eight-valve engine with a capacity of 90 horsepower will appear on the Lada Niva Legend. It will replace the current 1.7—liter engine — this engine will go down in history," said Kornienko.
The specialist shared that in addition to the new engine, Lada Niva Legend will receive "other significant changes," but did not disclose the details.
In April of this year, AvtoVAZ began selling the classic Lada Niva three-door SUV in a new Sport modification. The price of the new product starts from 1.7 million rubles. Compared to the Niva Legend, the sports modification received about 140 design changes. The SUV was equipped with the engine used on the Granta Sport, a 16-valve 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 122 hp.
On October 9, AvtoVAZ announced the start of work on preparing the new Lada Azimut crossover for state certification tests. According to their results, the new model will receive Vehicle Type Approval (OTT), which gives the right to sell the car in the Russian Federation.
