A gas leak allegedly caused an explosion followed by a fire in a multi-storey building in Alchevsk, Luhansk People's Republic (LNR), where two people were killed and the house partially collapsed. This was announced on October 13 by the head of the city district Svetlana Grebenkova.

"The prosecutor's office has organized an inspection in connection with a gas explosion in an apartment building in the city of Alchevsk. <...> According to preliminary data, the cause of the incident is a gas leak," she told RIA Novosti.

In addition, during the inspection, it is planned to give a legal assessment of the actions of those responsible, including for compliance with legislation in the field of ensuring the safety of gas equipment, the material clarifies.

Earlier that day, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for the LPR reported that two people died as a result of a fire in a nine-story building in Alchevsk. It was reported that the causes of the incident are being clarified. Grebenkova later said that the fire started as a result of an explosion.

The city authorities introduced an emergency mode after a fire in an apartment building in Alchevsk. It was clarified that in this regard, all city services switched to round-the-clock operation. Special equipment was used to clear the rubble in the house. It was also decided to allocate the necessary materials for the restoration of the thermal circuit of the damaged housing and neighboring buildings.
