Telegram scammers have started using law enforcement numbers.
Phone scammers began pretending to be law enforcement officials, using their Telegram numbers to intimidate victims. This was announced on Monday, October 13, by Anton Ivanov, Technical Director of Kaspersky Lab.
So, he told RIA Novosti that the attackers are now using numbers that match those of law enforcement agencies to manipulate victims. After a person sees the number on the official website, the fraudster continues to manipulate the psychological state, claiming that the call is important, and intimidates the person, claiming that he allegedly committed an offense related to the transfer of money.
To avoid fraud, the specialist advised to be careful about unsolicited calls and messages in mail and messengers. It is important to remember that law enforcement agencies will not make instant messenger calls and will never request confidential information, including codes from SMS and push notifications, the agency's interlocutor emphasized.
Also earlier that day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia revealed a new fraud scheme in which malefactors calling Russian citizens, posing as employees of the Federal Tax Service (FTS), persistently urge them to remove self-locking loans, allegedly to eliminate detected problems with debt or credit history.
Doctor of Psychological Sciences Nikolay Kozlov reported on October 11 that it is possible to recognize telephone scammers by analyzing their manner of speech, which most often has "street" specifics. Markers of the fact that the caller is a "law enforcement official" or the Federal Tax Service is actually a conman may include such words and phrases as "in kind," "what," "good," "who is it?" and others.
