Russian judoists won four gold medals at the European Cup in Spain
Judoka from Russia won four gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the European Cup competition in Malaga, Spain, Sport-Express reported on October 12.
In the overall medal standings of the tournament, Russian athletes took second place. The first place belongs to the team from Turkey (4-3-3), and the third place belongs to the athletes from Spain (3-3-5).
Marina Vorobyova (up to 48 kg), Timur Arbuzov (up to 90 kg), Matvey Kanikovsky (up to 100 kg) and Alice Startseva (over 78 kg) were awarded gold medals.
Natalia Yelkina (up to 57 kg) will bring home the silver medal. Bronze medals were won by Ramazan Abdulaev (up to 66 kg), Luna Gerasimova (up to 52 kg) and Yulia Semikolenova (up to 48 kg).
Shortly before, on October 9, during the Junior World Judo Championships in Peru for mixed teams, Russian athletes won five medals. Among them are one gold, three silver and one bronze. The Russians competed under the neutral flag of the International Judo Federation (IJF), Sport-Express clarified.
Prior to that, on September 6, Russian judoka Bislan Catamardov won the European Under-21 Championship. The fight took place in Bratislava. In the final in the weight category over 100 kg, the 20-year-old athlete defeated Mortaza Sukhoi from Germany.
