In Italy, in the Lombardy region, there was a major fire in the Bernaga monastery, founded about 400 years ago. The fire destroyed part of the historic building, including valuable works of art and antique furniture. This was reported on October 12 by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

It is specified that 21 nuns living in the monastery were evacuated in a timely manner. According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire was a short circuit in one of the cells.

Despite efforts to contain the fire and rescue valuables, the damage was significant. As a result of the fire, paintings, church utensils and other priceless objects were burned.

Lombardy President Attilio Fontana noted that the monastery is an important part of its historical and cultural heritage. As a result, the fire "damaged the memory and identity of our land."

Earlier, on October 2, a fire broke out at an oil refinery in Southern California. Fire brigades were deployed throughout the Southern Bay to eliminate it. It is specified that the cause of the fire is unknown.
