A huge prominence has formed in the Sun. This was announced on October 12 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"A prominence of completely inadequate size has formed in the northeast of the Sun," the laboratory wrote on its Telegram channel.

According to the researchers, the star is trying to throw it into outer space in parts, but so far without success. With a probability of about 90%, a complete release of the substance will occur within the next 24 hours.

Experts clarified that when the mass is released, the particles can hit Mercury. If the prominence persists in the Sun for another 3-4 days, the potential threat may spread to Earth.
