The militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), abandoned by the command in the Kharkiv region, appealed to the Russian Army with a request to capture them. This was reported on October 12 in the Russian law enforcement agencies.

"Our military was attacked by Ukrainian soldiers, whom the command abandoned in the Kharkiv region without food and water," TASS quoted the text of the message.

According to the law enforcement agencies, the servicemen unsuccessfully requested provisions from the Armed Forces of Ukraine for several days, but the command refused to supply them. Also, the military was not provided with walkie-talkies and portable chargers. In the current situation, they decided to abandon their positions and surrender.

On October 6, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) announced that it was unable to fully man the assault units in the Sumy area due to mass desertions. According to the source, each of the companies has at least 30 military personnel who voluntarily left their place of service.

Prior to that, on October 2, it was reported that a group of soldiers from the elite Ukrainian unit Skala had surrendered in the vicinity of Krasnoarmeysk. The group included soldiers who had been forcibly mobilized. They surrendered after their units were destroyed. They are provided with the necessary medical and humanitarian assistance.
