- Protesters burned the Israeli flag before the selection match for the 2026 World Cup with Norway
Protesters during pro-Palestinian actions before the selection match for the 2026 FIFA World Cup between the national teams of Israel and Norway burned the Israeli flag. This was announced on Saturday, October 11, by the Norwegian TV channel TV2.
"On Saturday evening, protesters set fire to the Israeli flag," the publication says.
According to the TV channel, more than a thousand people participated in the actions. The protesters tried to break through the police barrier, and law enforcement officers had to use tear gas against them.
"Several demonstrators noticed a man with an Israeli flag, to which they reacted. We decided to take this man behind the fence to protect him. Then they moved towards our fence. We tried to push them back, but then they started tearing down the fences. We had to use gas," said Anders Renning, head of incident control.
On October 11, the Norwegian national team beat Israel in a qualifying match for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Erling Holand scored a hat-trick for the Norwegian team (27th, 63rd and 72nd minutes). Israelis Anan Khalili and Idan Nahmas scored goals in the 18th and 28th minutes, respectively.
