Iran has terminated the implementation of the agreement with the IAEA
Iran has terminated the implementation of the Cairo agreements with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the nuclear program reached in Egypt. This was announced on Saturday, October 11, by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
"The Cairo agreement is currently suspended, and we have terminated cooperation with the IAEA on the nuclear program," he said on Iranian television.
Araqchi added that at the same time, possible reports from the IAEA on the proposal to resume cooperation will be considered by the Supreme National Security Council of Iran (NSDC).
The agency's Director General, Rafael Grossi, announced during a session of the Board of Governors on September 10 that the IAEA had agreed with Iran to monitor nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz and Fordo. He noted that the agreement fully complies with the comprehensive safeguards agreement.
Earlier, on September 9, Araqchi announced that new terms of cooperation had been agreed with the IAEA after the suspension of cooperation and the termination of inspections at the nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic. It was clarified that the parties have begun negotiations aimed at creating a new mechanism to fulfill Iran's obligations under guarantees and ensure continued cooperation.
