Russia will take retaliatory measures after the expulsion of a Russian journalist from Sweden. This was announced on October 11 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

She stressed that the actions of the Swedish authorities are far-fetched and contrary to the principles of freedom of speech.

"Despite the fact that the Russian correspondent had all the necessary documents in his hands, he was detained, interrogated and, as a result, deported. Will there be retaliatory measures? I hope you have no doubts," the diplomat wrote on her Telegram channel.

Medical insurance has become a formal reason for deportation. As Zakharova noted, the policy was valid, but did not work in Sweden due to restrictions imposed by Stockholm itself. The diplomat stressed that the correspondent is actually being deprived of a five-year French visa due to a legal conflict created by the Swedish authorities.

Earlier, on October 2, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Russia was registering an alarming trend of increasing pressure on employees of Russian state media accredited in Germany. In particular, conditions for the safe life and work of Russian media journalists continue to deteriorate in Germany — the degradation of the legal status caused by the actions of local authorities, the freezing of financial resources, refusals to open accounts and banking services, and the provision of interviews and comments.

As Vladimir Solovyov, chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR), noted in a conversation with Izvestia, journalists from Russia are now being treated terribly in Western countries.
