Those who want to ban the works of Russian writer and poet Alexander Pushkin in Ukraine are reminded of Sharikov's character from Mikhail Bulgakov's novella "The Heart of a Dog" by their ignorance. This was announced on October 11 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the new decision of the Institute of National Remembrance in Kiev.

Bulgakov wrote "The heart of a Dog" from a similar ballpoint pen," TASS quoted her as saying.

Earlier that day, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance recognized Pushkin and all related cultural heritage sites, as well as geographical names, as propaganda of "Russian imperialism."

A day earlier, Zakharova also commented on the statement of the Institute of National Memory of Ukraine to recognize Ivan Susanin as "mythologized Russian imperial propaganda." The diplomat responded: "It's scary to imagine who they recognize the figure of Christ as."

On July 2, Svetlana Krivenko, Chairman of the Berestinsky City Council of the Kharkiv region, announced that the monument to Pushkin, which was located next to the bust of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, had been dismantled in the city. According to the chairman, the monument was sent for storage to a local museum. After that, on August 1, another monument to the poet was demolished in Bolgrad, Odessa region.

The dismantling of monuments related to Soviet history, as well as the renaming of streets in Ukraine, has been carried out since 2015 after the adoption of the law "On the condemnation of the Communist and Nazi regimes." The law provides for the renaming of all topographical objects whose names are somehow related to the USSR, as well as the demolition of monuments and the dismantling of memorial plaques. Recently, the Ukrainian authorities have begun to fight not only against Soviet history, but also against everything related to Russia and the Russian language.
