A football player who scored seven goals in a match was arrested in Finland for fraud

34-year-old Brazilian football player Jonathan Guerreiro has been arrested in Finland on suspicion of participating in match-fixing. The arrest occurred immediately after the game, in which he scored seven goals. This was reported on October 10 by the Globo portal.

"34-year-old Brazilian striker Jonathan Guerreiro was arrested on Sunday by Finnish police on charges of manipulating football matches in the country. <...> The player was the target of an operation involving about 20 National Police officers who invaded the field shortly after the match," the publication says.

The arrest occurred shortly after Guerreiro, who plays for Finnkurd, scored seven goals in a match against EsPa/Renat in Espoo. The match ended with a total score of 8:1 in favor of Finnkurd. According to the portal, in addition to Guerreiro, two other Brazilian players were detained. Guerreiro's mobile phone and passport were seized.

According to local sources on the portal, an investigation is underway not only into this match, but also against a whole group of players suspected of participating in match-fixing. Finnkurd was associated with the falsification of matches in the interests of bettors (people who place bets in bookmakers), writes Globo.

Guerreiro was the captain and coach of the team he took over just three weeks ago. He previously played for Paimari United in Finland in 2022-2023.

"The director of Operations of the Finnish Football Association, Pekka Soini, confirmed the arrest of the Brazilian, but said he could not give any further comments on the case. The National Police also did not comment," the portal concludes.
