Russia and Iraq signed the first memorandum of understanding between zoos, Svetlana Akulova, General Director of the Moscow Zoo, said on October 11.

On the Iranian side, the document was signed by the director of the Erbil Zoo, Adil Salman Musa, who is in Moscow. According to Akulova, such a meeting should create prospects for international cooperation.

"We cordially welcomed the delegation of Erbil Zoo (Iraq), led by its director, Mr. Adel Salman Musa, and the director of the Partner Russian House in Iraq, Mr. Al-Barghash Alak Ali Mohammed," the director of the Moscow Zoo said in her Telegram channel.

The document stipulates that Russia and Iran will work together in key areas: conservation of rare and endangered species, exchange of scientific and practical experience, and the parties plan to conduct joint educational programs, exhibitions, and develop the professional skills of employees.

Last year, Deputy Mayor of Moscow Natalia Sergunina reported that the Moscow Zoo had signed a cooperation agreement with the largest zoo in the Philippines, located in the capital Manila. It provides for the exchange of experience and scientific information, as well as joint projects on the conservation of rare and endangered species. The document will also make it possible to exchange animals for participation in international population maintenance programs.
