Iris Stalzer, the mayor of the German city of Herdecke, who received several stab wounds from her adopted daughter, contacted the police several times for protection and help even before the attack. This was reported on October 11 by Tagesschau.

It is noted that in her statements to the police, she complained that she did not receive sufficient support from the authorities, and the day before the attack she was in constant contact with law enforcement agencies. According to the police, they took all necessary measures, but they did not specify which ones.

Herbert Roehl, Minister of the Interior of the federal state of North Rhine–Westphalia, said that the police are conducting an internal investigation to determine whether appropriate measures have been taken to prevent the attack.

Earlier, on October 8, it became known that the attack on Stalzer could have been committed by her 17-year-old adopted daughter. It was reported that the police found clothes covered in blood in the mayor's house. Presumably, it belongs to her adopted daughter. The police also found traces of blood, which, allegedly, someone tried to eliminate before the arrival of emergency services.

The attack on Mayor Herdecke became known on October 7. According to Focus, Stalzer received a total of 13 stab wounds to her stomach and back. At that time, it was alleged that the mayor was attacked by a group of men on the street, and after the incident she managed to crawl to her house, where her children discovered the Stalzer.
