The Moldovan authorities are considering two options for the country's integration into the European Union (EU) — immediately with Transnistria (PMR) or in stages. This was announced on October 10 by the leader of the ruling Action and Solidarity (PAS) party, Igor Grosu.

"In our case, we can talk about two scenarios. In one step, with the entire territory of the Republic of Moldova, or in two stages: [first, the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova is integrated, and, at a later stage, the second step is the territory on the left bank of the Dniester (Transnistria. — Ed.)," he said in an interview with Agerpres.

Gross noted that the final decision will depend on many factors, including the speed of the reforms and the EU accession process.

"In the end, people judge in terms of comfort, accessibility of services, and prospects offered by a particular Dniester bank," he explained.

On September 23, Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reported that Europe was preparing to occupy Moldova. According to the agency, the member states of the European Union (EU) are determined "to keep Moldova in line with their Russophobic policy at any cost, up to the introduction of troops and the actual occupation of the country."

Earlier, on July 14, political scientist Ivan Skorikov, head of the Ukraine department at the Institute of CIS Countries, said that the Moldovan authorities were seeking to deprive the Transnistrian region of independence. He also pointed out that the Moldovan Constitution already establishes a course towards European integration, which was approved as a result of a "fabricated European referendum" last fall.
