An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 occurred near the coast of the island of Mindanao, which is located in the southeastern Philippines. This was reported on October 11 by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
It is noted that the earthquake was recorded at 13.27 Moscow time, 24.9 km east of the city of Santiago in the province, which has a population of 2.6 thousand people. The earthquake was located at a depth of 60.1 km.

The leader of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., yesterday called for organizing the evacuation of residents inhabiting the southern part of the state, where a significant earthquake was recorded. In addition, the island State's Department of Social Welfare has already prepared food for the victims, and the Department of Health has mobilized its forces to provide them with medical care.
Later, on October 11, it became known that at least seven people were killed and 11 others injured as a result of a magnitude 7.4 earthquake off the coast of the Philippines. It was also reported that the earthquake affected 8.5 thousand people, most of whom were evacuated to safe areas.
