On October 10, US President Donald Trump thanked Russian Leader Vladimir Putin for his words about the Nobel Peace Prize.

On August 13, the White House announced the nomination of Trump by seven states for the Nobel Peace Prize. Among those who supported this initiative were Prime Ministers of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, Cambodia Hun Manet, Presidents of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Gabon Brice Oligi Nguema, as well as the Government of Pakistan and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda Olivier Nduhirehe.

On September 2, Trump himself responded negatively to a journalist's question about his desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He added that he wants to be treated fairly for his services as president of the United States.

However, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on October 10 to Venezuelan politician Maria Corina Machado for fighting for the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and striving for a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.

On the same day, White House Communications Director Stephen Chung said that the Nobel Committee had proved that it puts politics above peace. He added that the American leader will continue to make peace agreements, end wars and save lives.
