The State Duma spoke about the threat of India's transition to American oil
India's economic growth is linked to cheap Russian energy resources, so the country will not sacrifice its well-being for short-term relations with the United States. Igor Ananskikh, first Deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy, said this on Friday, October 10.
Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the White House expects that New Delhi, against the background of the 25% duties imposed by Washington, will soon increase purchases of American oil in return for supplies from the Russian Federation.
According to the minister, India's expected redistribution of oil purchases may occur within the next few weeks or months, Moscow 24 reports.
Ananskikh recalled that friendly relations between Russia and India began from the moment the country gained independence and continue to this day. The parliamentarian added that India is currently on an economic upswing, including through the supply of cheap Russian energy resources.
"I don't think that India's energy supply policy will change much qualitatively and quantitatively. Because India's economy is booming, and I think that for them the welfare of their citizens and the economy is much more important than short—term relations with the United States," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
Duties on India due to Russian oil supplies came into force on August 27. A few days later, on September 2, US President Donald Trump announced that he did not intend to reduce these tariffs. 360.ru .
A month later, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the XXII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club, pointed out the futility of India's refusal of oil from the Russian Federation, since, according to him, this decision would bring certain damage to this country, which it would also face if sanctions were imposed against it.
