Lawyers have filed a complaint against the arrest in a new fraud case against Mikhail Abyzov, former Minister for Open Government of the Russian Federation. This was reported to Izvestia on October 10 in the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow.

Abyzov is currently serving a sentence for creating a criminal community and other crimes. On October 6, the court arrested him in a new case for two months.

The ex-minister was charged under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on an especially large scale"), which provides for up to 10 years in prison. This case was initiated in March 2018 against a top manager of a Russian venture Capital Company (RVC). Yana Ryazantseva and unidentified persons.

Speaking in court, Abyzov stated that he was not involved in the crime and had nothing to do with the theft of RVC funds. At the same time, according to the investigator, his involvement is confirmed by the testimony of witnesses and other case materials.

On October 6, the court arrested ex-Minister Abyzov for two months in a new fraud case.

Abyzov was arrested in the spring of 2019. Besides him, several other people were involved in the case. The criminal case on the facts of money laundering on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and illegal business activities (Article 289 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) is based on the theft of 4 billion rubles from Siberian Energy Company JSC (Sibeco) and RES, which are leading energy suppliers in the Novosibirsk region.

Since October 2020, the accounts of Abyzov and his ex-wife Ekaterina Sirotenko have been seized. In August 2021, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation filed a lawsuit against Abyzov and Alfa-Bank to recover more than $126 million in favor of the state. The state prosecution demanded that the former minister be sentenced to 19.5 years in prison.
