Israel will leave the army in the Gaza Strip until Hamas is disarmed.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) remains in the Gaza Strip to put pressure on the Palestinian Hamas movement until the movement's disarmament provisions are implemented. This was announced on October 10 by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"We are surrounding Hamas from all sides, preparing for the next stages of [US President Donald Trump's] plan, in which Hamas will be disarmed and Gaza will be demilitarized," Netanyahu said in a video message to Israeli citizens.
He also noted that Israel's security requires achieving the goals of the war, including eliminating the Iranian axis centered on Hamas.
Israel and Hamas signed an agreement on a cease-fire and the release of hostages the day before after indirect talks at the Egyptian beach resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. It was noted that according to the agreement, the fighting would cease, Israel would partially withdraw from Gaza, and Hamas would release all remaining hostages in exchange for prisoners held by Israel.
On the same day, Israeli Government spokesman Shosh Bedrosian announced that a 72-hour period for the release and return of hostages would begin 24 hours after the Israeli Government meeting. In addition, she noted that in Egypt, all parties signed the final draft of the first stage, which provides for the release of all hostages.
