The Bundestag has lifted the immunity of two deputies from the Alternative for Germany party, Stefan Brandner and Matthias Mosdorf, for allegedly using Nazi greetings and insulting a journalist. This was announced on October 10 by the Tagesschau television service.

It is clarified that the Brandner case concerns the alleged insult of a journalist, and in the case of Mosdorf, the alleged use of greetings from Nazi Germany's leader Adolf Hitler.

The publication noted that the removal of immunity from deputies allows criminal proceedings to be initiated against them.

In July, the AFD State Arbitration Court in North Rhine–Westphalia expelled Bundestag deputy Matthias Helferich from the party for his Nazi views. It was reported that in 2021, messages from a chat in which Helferich called himself a "Nazi-friendly person" and also broadcast right-wing radical views became publicly available.
