As part of the upcoming large-scale restoration of the Hermitage, which the museum is carrying out with the support of Rosneft, a permanent exhibition dedicated to Art Nouveau will appear in the museum. Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum, told about this in an interview with Vedomosti.

"We need to develop permanent exhibitions, and this, as a rule, is always very long and expensive — it is necessary to carry out restoration work, change showcases and equipment, update interiors. We have already implemented a similar project with Rosneft. Last year, the halls of the renovated permanent exhibition of Chinese art and culture were opened. Now we have a new project with our partners — we have long planned to open several halls at the Headquarters at once, where modernity will be presented," said Piotrovsky.

According to Piotrovsky, Art Nouveau is a very important style of art that has not been given due attention before. Meanwhile, the museum has excellent collections of both Russian and European Art Nouveau, in particular, William Morris's "Adoration of the Magi" tapestry from Shchukin's collection, works by Halle and other artists.

"We plan to open the first Art Nouveau halls this year. The implementation of such a project became possible when we received Rosneft's consent to participate in it. It is important for us when there are partners who do not just give money and do something, but when we are generally on the right track, when we are going in the same direction," Piotrovsky said.

In addition, with the support of Rosneft, it is planned to completely restore the Hermitage Theater, built by decree of Catherine II, the director of the museum said.
