The leader of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., called for the evacuation of residents living in the southern part of the state, where a significant earthquake was recorded. This was reported on October 10 by the Phillipine News Agency (PNA), citing relevant government documents.

"The chief Executive said that he has instructed the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, the Office of Civil Defense, the Armed Forces, the Philippine Coast Guard and all concerned agencies to immediately evacuate coastal areas, activate emergency lines and closely coordinate with local authorities," the publication says..

It is specified that at present, the services involved in conducting search and rescue operations are already ready to deploy their activities in the territory of Davao City, where the seismic event was recorded. In addition, the island State's Department of Social Welfare has already prepared food for the victims, and the Department of Health has mobilized its forces to provide them with medical care.

All citizens are advised to avoid coastal areas, follow the instructions of representatives of local emergency councils and be vigilant.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) on the same day reported an earthquake off the coast of the Philippines, near the province of Manai, where Davao is located. The magnitude of the seismic event, which, according to the Philippine Seismological Agency, can cause a tsunami, was 7.4.
