An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 was recorded off the coast of the Philippines. This was announced on October 10 by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
It is specified that the epicenter was located 18 km from Manai province, Davao city. The depth of the earthquake was 53 km.
The Philippine Seismological Agency, in turn, warned of the threat of a tsunami due to the danger of high waves. The agency posted the information on its official website.
"A devastating tsunami with life—threatening waves is expected," the report said.
According to the agency, the height of the waves can exceed the norm by more than 1 m, and in closed bays and straits they can be even higher. The waves are expected to continue for several hours.
Earlier, on September 30, an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 was reported off the coast of the Philippines. It is specified that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 18 km northeast of the city of Bogo, and the source was at a depth of 10 km. It was later reported that 60 people died as a result of the incident.
