The State Duma wants to introduce a bill that will impose restrictions on the number of pets living in apartments. This was announced on October 10 by Evgeny Marchenko, a member of the Duma Committee on Family Protection, Fatherhood, Motherhood and Childhood.

According to the new rules, no more than one adult dog and one adult cat can be kept for every 18 square meters of living space. The exception will be puppies and kittens up to six months old. Guide dogs will not be affected by these restrictions. The authors of the initiative point out that current legislation does not set limits, which in practice leads to dozens of animals being kept in apartments and violations of sanitary standards.

"In practice, this situation leads to numerous cases when 15-20 or more cats or dogs are kept in ordinary apartments, which entails a violation of sanitary and epidemiological requirements and the creation of unsanitary conditions," TASS cites the contents of the bill.

On July 10, State Duma deputies from the New People faction proposed creating a single short number for emergency veterinary care. It was clarified that the deputies suggested using the 106 number, since it is not occupied by other services and is easy to remember.
