In the Anzhero-Sudzhensky city district, an unknown person tricked a 91-year-old pensioner into handing over 500,000 rubles for an expert examination, as a result of which an elderly woman lost her savings. This was announced on October 9 by the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry.

The fraudster, posing as a law enforcement officer, convinced the pensioner that criminals had taken possession of her personal data and were using it for illegal transfers. He informed her that she could be criminally liable, and advised her to transfer all the money for the examination.

The woman believed the attacker and handed over her savings to him. When the money was not returned on time, the pensioner told her relatives about the incident, who contacted the police.

"As a result of a complex of operational search measures, employees of the criminal investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Anzhero-Sudzhensky city district, together with operatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Kemerovo region - Kuzbass, identified and detained the courier. It turned out to be a 20-year-old student from Krasnoyarsk," the publication says.

The scammer explained that he had found a job offer as a money transfer courier in one of the messengers. After receiving the order from the curator, he came from another city and took the money from the pensioner. He transferred the stolen funds to his accomplices, keeping some for himself.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainee under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"), the sanctions of which provide for a penalty of up to six years in prison.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Interior Ministry reported that telephone fraudsters in the Russian Federation, posing as employees of a polyclinic, convince pensioners to provide personal data allegedly to retake tests. The attackers have already managed to deceive an 89-year-old pensioner. An accomplice of the scammers came to her, who brought bags for money. After a while, the man took the "parcel" with 80 thousand rubles.
