The White House expects that New Delhi, against the background of the duties imposed by Washington in the amount of 25%, will soon increase purchases of American oil in return for supplies from the Russian Federation. This was announced on October 9 by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant.

"I think we will see a change in the balance soon, namely: they (representatives of the Indian side. They will start buying less Russian oil and more American oil," he said in an interview with Fox News channel.

According to the minister, India's expected redistribution of oil purchases may occur over the next few weeks or months.

Duties on India due to Russian oil supplies came into force on August 27. A few days later, on September 2, US President Donald Trump announced that he did not intend to reduce these tariffs.

A month later, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the XXII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club, pointed out the senselessness of India's refusal of oil from the Russian Federation, since, according to him, this decision would bring certain damage to this country, which it would also face if sanctions were imposed against it.
