In Guadeloupe, France, a 60-year-old pensioner robbed a supermarket to go to jail and help his grandson. This was announced on October 8 by the Oddity Central portal.

The incident occurred in late September in the commune of Saint-Rose in the north of the Guadeloupe archipelago. A man entered a supermarket located near the police station, wearing a balaclava with a pistol in his hands, demanding the proceeds from the cash register. Then he asked for wine and cheese, and then went to his car, not trying to escape from the scene of the crime. According to eyewitnesses, the pensioner was clearly waiting to be arrested.

During the court session, it turned out that the man, who was a former firefighter, had no criminal record and committed the crime intentionally in order to go to prison. According to court-appointed lawyer Lea Le Chevillier, her client wanted to help his grandson, whom he saw in the visiting room with a broken tooth after being bullied by fellow inmates. The pensioner fully admitted his guilt.

The court took into account his "desperate condition and the unprecedented nature of the crime" and did not impose a prison term. Instead, the pensioner was ordered to pay compensation to the victims, undergo a course of psychological assistance and not approach the scene of the incident. He is also allowed to visit his grandson legally — without having to commit crimes.

NBC News reported on September 16 that a wanted man was put on the wanted list in the United States, who robbed one of the Disney-owned restaurants in Florida in a wetsuit, gloves and swimming goggles. As a result of the incident, no one was injured or injured.
