Nobel Prize winner John Gurdon has died at the age of 92.
Nobel Prize-winning biologist John Gurdon, who paved the way for the creation of Dolly the sheep, has died at the age of 92. This was announced on October 7 on the website of the press service of the University of Cambridge.
"It is with deep sorrow that the university announces the passing of Professor Sir John Gurdon, founder of the Gurdon Institute," the statement said.
Gurdon received the Nobel Prize in 2012. His pioneering work with Japanese scientist Shinya Yamanaka made it possible to find out whether genetic information is preserved or lost during development.
His research paved the way for revolutionary advances in biomedical research, from stem cell biology to mouse genetics and IVF.
