- Three people were arrested in Belgium on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack against politicians.
Belgian police have arrested three members of a terrorist group suspected of plotting the assassination of local politicians using drones. This was reported on October 9 by the Belga news agency.
The suspects were detained in Antwerp. One of the detainees has been released, and the other two will appear in court on October 10.
"During the searches, investigators found an object resembling an improvised explosive device, a bag of metal pellets and a 3D printer, which is believed to have been used to produce parts for the planned attack. Prosecutors believe that the suspects planned to attach an explosive charge to the drone," the agency reports.
It is reported that the attack was being prepared against Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, although this information has not been officially confirmed. The searches took place in the immediate vicinity of his private residence.
It is specified that for security reasons, a short-term evacuation of residents of nearby areas was carried out.
On August 27, the media reported that police in France had detained two minors on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts in synagogues and near the Eiffel Tower. It was clarified that the detainees, being from families of Arab-Muslim origin, were in contact with representatives of a secret community, and also tried to buy weapons through the darknet (DarkNet — shadow Internet).
