- In Chuvashia, a resident confessed to the police after an unsuccessful terrorist attack attempt
Investigators have opened a criminal case against a 19-year-old resident of Chuvashia after an attempt to set fire to a railway electrical substation in the city of Kanasha. This was reported on October 9 in the press service of the Federal Security Service (UFSB) in the region.
"The investigative body of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Chuvash Republic has opened a criminal case against a 19-year—old resident," TASS quoted the agency as saying.
According to investigators, the suspect became a victim of fraud and was recruited by the Ukrainian special services. It is noted that in May 2025, the attackers introduced themselves as employees of the Russian Post, law enforcement agencies and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and convinced the person involved to issue loans, as well as transfer 100 thousand rubles to an allegedly "secure account."
Later, the defendant, who was threatened with criminal prosecution for allegedly "helping fraudsters," was forced to set fire to an electrical substation of the railway. The agency added that money was transferred to him for the purchase of components and preparation of an incendiary mixture.
The suspect tried to set fire to the substation, but there was no fire. Subsequently, the man turned to law enforcement agencies and confessed to what he had done. The person involved is suspected of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act").
The day before, it was reported that two Russians who worked for Ukrainian terrorists and prepared terrorist acts on their behalf on the territory of the Russian Federation were convicted of high treason. It is noted that the 47-year-old man was sentenced to 21 years in prison, and the 22-year-old defendant received 18 years in prison. In addition, each of them also received a fine of 600 thousand rubles.
