Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silinja called the European Union's (EU) idea of creating a "drone wall" "very crude." This was reported on October 9 by the Bloomberg news agency.

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silinja said she welcomes the European Union's plan to create a so-called wall of drones along the eastern border of the bloc, but called this idea "very crude," the article says.

In addition, she noted the need for European states to cooperate on this issue and stressed that the EU is making every effort to prevent the invasion of drones on its territory.

Earlier, on October 3, it was reported that at the summit of the European Political Community in Copenhagen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz sharply criticized the financing of the drone wall project from EU funds. The European Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius, supported the initiative, noting that the project was estimated at €1 billion, and its creation could be completed in less than a year.

Prior to that, on September 19, Norbert Roettgen, a deputy from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), a member of the ruling coalition of Germany, announced on September 19 the need to create a "wall of drones" along the entire eastern border of NATO. At the same time, Roettgen does not support the idea of fighting drones in Ukrainian airspace, as this would mean using NATO weapons outside the bloc's territory.
