Search for the Usoltsev family in the Krasnoyarsk Territory — latest news
On the eighth day of the search, rescuers and law enforcement officers were able to establish where the radio signal from the mobile phone of the head of the Usoltsev family had last come from. According to the press service of the State Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia, its source is located 7 km from the village of Kuturchin, from where the missing tourists began their journey.
"Currently, the search for the family is focused on rough terrain in the designated square," the department's Telegram channel says.
According to a TASS law enforcement source, the place where the signal was recorded is far from the previous search area and it is not easy to get there.
"Six groups went out there yesterday, one got there, somehow returned, the taiga, a hard-to-reach place. Today, the search continues," the agency quotes its interlocutor as saying.
The rescue operation is also complicated by natural conditions: heavy snow cover, low temperatures and the peculiarities of the taiga terrain.
The last time Sergey and Irina Usoltseva's phones were online was on September 28. After that, they did not get in touch. Earlier, the Telegram channel Kras Mash reported that the phone of the head of the family suddenly became available, but this information was not confirmed.
How the Usoltsevs' family was searched for
Sergei and Irina Usoltsev, along with their five-year-old daughter Arina and a corgi dog, disappeared on October 28. According to the investigation, they left the village of Kuturchin and headed towards Kuturchinsky Belogorye. After that, the connection with them was lost.
Irina's friend Oksana Zhadnyuk told Izvestia that the tourists spent the night before the hike at the Geosphere base, and then went towards Mount Pinocchio. She added that the Usoltsevs had planned to return home on the same day, but had probably changed their route.
The search began on October 1 in the Minsk Loop area. The eldest son of the Usoltsevs contacted the police, concerned about the lack of news from his parents. On the same day, their car was found abandoned in the village of Kuturchin.
A few days later, on October 6, it became known that the Usoltsevs were indeed heading to Mount Pinocchio — they had been seen by other tourists shortly before their disappearance. By that time, the search team had expanded to 356 people and 47 pieces of equipment. The operation involves not only rescuers and police, but also local residents, volunteers from different cities, as well as the Lisa Alert squad. Drones, off-road vehicles, light-engine aircraft and a motorized paraglider were used for the search.
As reported in the Telegram channel of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, as of October 9, ground search teams had surveyed 41 square kilometers of forest and 792 km of forest roads. Another 26 square kilometers were surveyed using two drones.
What happened to the Usoltsev family — the main versions
Law enforcement officers are considering several versions of the disappearance of the Usoltsev family. According to one of them, tourists could meet a bear in the taiga and get lost trying to escape from it.
According to another version, Sergei could have become ill on the way, and his wife and daughter could not get out on their own. Investigators also suggest that the thick fog on September 28 could have caused tourists to lose their way. Perhaps the head of the family, as an experienced hiker, was able to make a shelter, and now the Usoltsevs are waiting for rescuers.
There is also a possibility that the Usoltsevs fell into a sinkhole in the rocks.
