The peace plan between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement is fragile and "far from a guaranteed step towards real de-escalation." This was stated on October 9 by political analyst Dmitry Brije to Izvestia.

The expert identified several key factors that can affect the success or failure of negotiations. First, he pointed out the "symmetry of interests." For Israel, the main goal is to ensure the security and demilitarization of Gaza, while for Hamas, maintaining political influence and legitimacy in Palestinian society is an important priority.

"The goals of these parties are strategically contradictory, and any attempt to combine them in one plan will require step-by-step compromises that can quickly fail. Secondly, there is an internal contradiction. Pressure is growing in Israel from radical politicians who oppose negotiations with Hamas. There is also a split in the movement itself between the military and the political wing, as well as between Gaza and the Palestinian diaspora," the political scientist noted.

In addition, he said that Qatar, Egypt and Turkey really played the role of intermediaries, but each of them has its own goals. For example, Egypt seeks to ensure stability in order to control the Sinai Peninsula, Qatar wants to strengthen its status as a regional mediator, and Turkey aims to expand its political influence.

"This makes the process fragile, and any change in the regional balance can slow down the implementation of the plan. If this plan becomes outdated, it can lay the foundation for a new security architecture in the region, where Arab countries, with the support of the United States and with the participation of Russia, will strive to integrate Palestine into a new format of the Middle East Partnership," concluded Brydje.

On October 8, US President Donald Trump announced the signing of the first phase of the peace plan between the Israeli side and the Palestinian movement. As the head of state pointed out, this means the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to the agreed line and the speedy release of all hostages. Later, on October 9, it became known that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip had entered into force.
